About Us

In India private sector extends about 82% outpatient care and 58% of in-patient care.  In such a scenario engagement with the private sector for HIV services delivery is an essential part of the response to HIV in the country.

Since 2005, SHARE India supported by Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has been working towards strengthening of HIV related service in private medical colleges in Andhra Pradesh.  Andhra Pradesh State AIDS Consortium (APAIDSCON) a consortium of 20 private medical colleges was formed with the objective to facilitate HIV care, treatment and prevention services in these medical colleges as per the national guidelines.

As a result of the consortium's  efforts (click here to read about activities )a range of HIV related services including deliveries of HIV positive women, provision of Nevirapine prophylaxis as well as counseling and testing services are being provided through these centers medical colleges and most of these services are in partnership with Andhra Pradesh State AIDS Control Society(APSACS).

The National AIDS Control Organisation (NACO) has recently  revised  the guidelines for prevention of parent to child transmission (PPTCT)in line with recommendations of the World Health Organisation.  AP is one of the states in which the new guidelines are implemented.

To further strengthen the PPTCT program among the consortium partners SHARE India with the support of APSACS and CDC conceptualized capacity building of private medical college staff on the new guidelines.

This blog provides updates of activities related to the new PPTCT guidelines and the consortium of private medical colleges in AP.
